In Moses 6:40 we read of the only named character in the story of Enoch (apart from Enoch himself):
And there came a man unto him, whose name was Mahijah, and said unto him: Tell us plainly who thou art, and from whence thou comest?
In the next chapter, Moses 7:2 reads:
And from that time forth Enoch began to prophesy, saying unto the people, that: As I was journeying, and stood upon the place Mahujah, and cried unto the Lord, there came a voice out of heaven, saying—Turn ye, and get ye upon the mount Simeon.
While “Mahujah” may look like a misspelling of “Mahijah”, this is actually consistent with the underlying Hebrew of Genesis 4:18 which uses both spellings for the same person.
At this time in Joseph’s life he didn’t understand Hebrew so how did he know about the different ways of spelling Mahijah/Mahujah?
